Nice has a long-standing reputation as one of the most glamorous spots on the globe. From the fine weather to the beautiful beaches, there is a lot to adore about Nice – we’ve tried to pick just five! If you can afford a home in Nice, it really is worth it.

1. Home to France’s finest weather

Nice

Beautiful Nice.

Nice boasts of some of the best weather in all of France. The sun is out for 500 hours more than Toulouse, which is on the same latitude. It is also out for a 1,000 more hours than London at 2,500. Fascinatingly, the mountains shelter the city from too rough weather.

Plus, the temperature of the sea remains around 13 degrees. Even in November, you can go for a dip without it being an act of bravery.

Moreover, the weather in Nice is not too hot, as the sea keeps a breeze going. In the summer, you can expect temperatures in the mid-twenties.

So often when purchasing a property abroad, there is the fear that it will only be of any use during a single season. Fortunately, in Nice, you don’t have to worry about that too much. Historically, Nice was more of a winter destination than a summer one – so, there’s certified year-round appeal.

2.    You are glamorous too

Even if you have not personally been to Nice, you are probably aware of its reputation as a destination that catches the attention of the wealthy and beautiful.

Nice has had this reputation for the last 200 years! Queen Victoria loves Nice. Indeed, when she was dying, she said, “Oh, if only I were in Nice, I should recover”.

As well as royalty, Nice has turned the heads of artists and authors. Somerset Maugham and James Baldwin were both fans.

Today, Americans flock there for Cannes Film Festival. And Sir Elton John is rumoured to own a home there.

3.    The beauty of Old Town

Sainte Reparate Cathedral

Sainte Reparate Cathedral.

In 2021, UNSECO recognised “Nice, Winter Resort of the French Rivera” as a World Heritage site. In its description of Nice, UNSECO sees it as “a city devoted to winter tourism”. The old town retains so much charm that you feel as if you were truly treading the paths of those that have loved Nice in years gone by. It is just the perfect place to pick up trinkets and hop between cafes.

Additionally, Cours Saleya is a fantastic market selling fresh food, flowers, and locally made bits and bobs.

When you are after beautiful things to see, head to Place Rossetti for a view of Cathedral Sainte Reparate.

4.    So much culture to explore

As well as the glamour of celebrity, there’s plenty of culture to absorb in Nice. The most impressive is the Marc Chagall, the building, designed by André Hermant, is a stand-out on its own. Other highlights include: museum for Matisse, Fine Arts, Modern and Contemporary Art, the opera house – and the casino.

5.    Gorgeous beaches

beach in Nice

Head to the beach for lovely long sunny days!

Nice is home to some show-stealing beaches, all of which are postcard-perfect. Just east of the harbour, La Réserve is a small pebble beach – buts its seclusion is part of its attraction. Even smaller, Coco Beach just about manages a few towels thrown on its pebbles, but if you can get a space, it’s worth it. While the most family friendly is Ruhl Beach.

Unsurprisingly, given all these incredible features, homes in Nice can be pricey. For a small apartment, the starting price would be €300,000. Then, really, the only way is up when it comes to the cost of a home in Nice. However, if you can afford it, homes in Nice will always be sought-after, so it is an excellent investment opportunity.
