With the whole coast benefitting from temperatures regularly hitting thirty degrees in July and August, many Blue Flag Beaches, and a steady stream of international flights from Alicante airport, it can be hard to decide where along the Costa Blanca you would like to buy a home.

Here, we highlight three terrific destinations on the Costa Blanca to own a home in: Denia, a historical port; Gran Alacant, a sleepy paradise; and Albir, a film buff’s haven.

Denia

Denia

Darling Denia

Denia is located in the northeast of the Costa Blanca. If you are somebody who loves to visit the Balearic Islands – maybe to party hard in Ibiza – but finds it a tad too intense or expensive to buy a home there, you’ll love Denia. It is the ideal base for trips to the Balearic Islands, and you can even wave to them from the shore. But Denia is much more than just a stopping off point. The city is dominated by an ancient castle, which the Muslims, the Romans and the Christians have all left their mark on. It used to be the residence of the Marquis of Denia. The castle comes with its own interesting Archaeological Museum too. Thankfully, the history does not stop there, you can also visit the 18th-century church of the Asunción; the 17th-century Atarazanas (dockyards); the cloister and church of San Antonio and the 18th century, neoclassical town hall building.

Denia possesses twenty kilometres of beaches: fine sand in the north, and rockier stretches in the south. Les Rotes is a favourite among fishermen and divers.

Denia would suit a couple where one person likes to go on long history walks and the other likes to sizzle on the beach. You will both be happy here.

Alicante airport is an hour and twelve minutes away by car.

Gran Alacant

Gran Alacant

Grand Gran Alacant.

If you are the type of person that often ends up doing their packing last minute and misplacing their passport, a home in Gran Alacant might take some of the pressure off, as Alicante airport is just ten minutes away. While the city of Alicante is twenty minutes away. Gran Alacant has a relaxed feel: traditional Spanish homes in that beautiful yellow-orange colour curl up hills. While there is more of a rush in the summer, by September, it is just populated by local Spanish people and those that own a holiday home there. The restaurants, a fair few British inspired, have a hubbub in the evening. Gran Alacant is distinguished by its chilled atmosphere, it is less somewhere that you would choose for a heady holiday, and more somewhere that would be lovely to settle into – be that for a few weeks at a time over the course of a year or full-time.

Albir

Albir

Alluring Albir

If Denia and Gran Alacant sound too toned down for you, you might be attracted to Albir. Located less than fifteen minutes away from the more well-known Benidorm, Albir is similarly a modern, purpose-built resort. However, Albir does not attract the throngs of karaoke-lovers to its shores that Benidorm does. Albir is as pretty as a picture with well-manicured, tree lined streets and orange groves. Every year, it hosts an international film festival, which has led to Albir having its own promenade of Hollywood star style names. Sounds glamorous, doesn’t it?

If (like most of us), you love the Costa Blanca for their fabulous beaches, you will be impressed to learn that Albir Beach has been awarded an award a Blue Flag for thirty years. That is since the award’s creation. Only six other Spanish beaches can claim the same.

Plus, Albir is separated from Benidorm by the fantastic Sierra Helada Natural Park, which contains an impressive mountain range. So, if you do want to head to Benidorm, there’s always an interesting route to take!

Albir is forty-five minutes away from Alicante airport.
