Baqueira-Beret

The most popular resort is Baqueira-Beret on the southern slopes of the Pyrenees Mountains in Catalonia. With slopes as high as 2,610 metres, 153km of pistes and reliable snowfall, it is widely regarded as the best ski resort in Spain, as well as one of the best in Europe.

Baqueira-Beret is split into three areas: Beret, Baqueira and Bonaigua. Each offers something different, with Baqueira best suiting more experienced skiers while Beret is better for beginners and families. You can easily move between the slopes via a sophisticated and modern lift system.

The best time to visit Baqueira-Beret is from early December to mid-April. Ski passes are around €59 for adults and €39 for children.

The resort is easy to reach from Barcelona, Zaragoza and Toulouse in France. If you’d like to buy property near the resort, look to the towns and villages of Baqueira, Ruda, Tanau and Salardu.

Sierra Nevada – Pradollano

The Sierra Nevada ski station is the most southerly ski resort in Europe. It is truly breathtaking with wide, open slopes and incredible views of the snow-capped Sierra Nevada mountains and olive grove hills.

It is the highest resort in Spain with elevations between 2,100m and 3,282m, and there are 107km of slopes for skiers and snowboarders to enjoy. The weather is mild and sunny and the sky is almost always blue.

The ski season is quite long, running from  late November until early May. Ski passes are around €52 for adults and €34 for children.

The resort is just 45 minutes from Granada. If you’d like to buy property near the resort, consider Pradollano, Monachil, and Granada.

Valdezcaray is under three hours from the wonderful cities of Bilbao, San Sebastian and Zaragoza. It is a fairly small resort, with just 20km of slopes; however, many people enjoy splitting their time between skiing and exploring the rest of this beautiful region.

The resort enjoys 22 trails and is perfect for skiers of all abilities. There are 18,000 hectares of forest to discover, meaning that as well as skiing, you can fish, mountaineer, swim, play tennis and even go horse riding.

Valdezcaray is a lot more affordable than the other two resorts we’ve mentioned. Ski passes are around €29 for adults and €20 for children. A good place to look for property nearby is Ezcaray, or if you don’t mind travelling, consider buying in the nearby cities.
