Nerja

Nerja in the Costa del Sol is a stunning beach town with much to explore. As well as 10 miles of sandy beaches, its large network of limestone caves is a huge attraction. Many come here to see the world’s largest stalagmite and to visit the cave that is shaped naturally like an amphitheatre. Concerts are held here and there is even a Nerja ‘cave festival’ during the summer months.

For a dose of history, Nerja doesn’t disappoint. You can also visit the 15th-century church of Iglesias El Salvador with Moorish-influenced architecture, and the Balcón de Europa, a vantage point with a stunning sea view, once used to spot British invaders and pirates.

Llanes

Llanes is in Asturias in northwest Spain and is known for its wealth of history. Inhabited since prehistoric times, there are plenty of archaeological sites and buildings to visit, including the traditional fishing port, the medieval Tower of Llanes and a Romanic-gothic Basilica.

There are many fiestas celebrated in Llanes throughout the year, which involve folk dancing and the townspeople wearing traditional costumes. These include fiestas to celebrate the patron saint of the town, Nuestra Señora del Conceyu, and three big summer Fiestas in the town.

There are several beaches in Llanes and many in the surrounding area, with a mixture of popular, busy beaches and unspoilt, quiet coves for you to explore.

Vigo

The largest city in Galicia, you can find everything in Vigo. Historical buildings, vibrant festivals, museums, beautiful beaches and restaurants, you won’t be short of things to do. A big attraction is the Cíes Islands – three islands just off the coast. They are a nature reserve with unspoilt beaches, including Rodas Beach, which is considered one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Samil beach, however, is Vigo’s main beach, as is also beautiful with bright white sands.

As well as all of the above, you’ll also find a huge fish market here, so it is a foodie’s paradise. It also has a vibrant music scene with everything from traditional Galician to modern-day music.

San Pedro del Pinatar

This small seaside town is situated at the top end of the Mar Menor, where the Costa Cálida meets the Costa Blanca. Predominantly a fishing village, its sandy beaches and shallow waters attract visitors, as well as the opportunities for water sports and the nearby Parque Natural de Las Salinas y Arenales – an area of dunes and salt flats.

However, the attraction that makes this beach stand out from the rest is its outdoor mud therapy site – the largest in Europe! The mud is believed to have therapeutic healing powers and help with arthritic pain, rheumatism and broken bones.
