The climate

This large area generally experiences 4 seasons; however, the climate varies depending on which part of the Nouvelle Aquitaine you find yourself in. If you’re in the northwest, such as in the Deux Sevres, you’ll experience hot summers and cold winters.

From Charente to Landes, there’s a temperate maritime climate and in the Pyrenees, of course, winters are very cold and summer is fairly mild. The whole region experiences a decent amount of sunshine, with the capital, Bordeaux, getting 2,200 hours per year.

Great transport links

You are spoilt for choice when it comes to transport links in the Nouvelle Aquitaine. There are nine airports covering this large region – Bordeaux, Limoges, Biarritz, La Rochelle, Agen, Dordogne-Perigord, Brive Vallee, Poitiers and Pau, with connections to Paris and other French cities. There are also several high-speed rail connections to Paris, Brussels and other parts of France and Europe. The region is also served by a good motorway network.

Beautiful towns and villages

A huge attraction of this area is the abundance of pretty towns and villages. Cities and towns such as Bordeaux, Limoges, La Rochelle and Pau are second to none for their beauty, amenities and transport links. However, there are also some stunning villages and contrary to the perceptions of many, not all of them are in the well-known Dordogne department. The likes of Sare, Navarrenx and La Bastide-Clairence are just a few of the many picturesque villages across the region.

A variety of property prices

As the largest region in France, the property prices here vary depending on where you look. However, despite it being such a popular area, there are still bargains to be found! The cheapest region is the Limousin and the most expensive is the Dordogne, with the Pyrenees also being fairly pricey. Charente is a brilliant department to choose if you want everything that the Dordogne offers with reasonable property prices – you can find a decent 3-bed house with a garden for around €150,000!
