Stretching for 12 kilometres, Mijas Costa is a beautiful coastal area along the Costa del Sol. The coastline encompasses many resorts, with the idyllic whitewashed village of Mijas Pueblo sitting proudly above. So, why is Mijas so popular with international buyers?

It offers the best of both worlds

Mijas is made up of three different areas: Mijas Pueblo, Mijas Costa and Las Lagunas. Mijas Pueblo is the epitome of a traditional Andalusian village, while the coastal resorts and Las Lagunas are more modern.

Mijas Pueblo is a particular favourite with overseas buyers. This is hardly surprising as the cobbled streets, pretty whitewashed buildings and spectacular sea and mountain views are enough to convince anyone to buy a home there. What’s more, the region’s gorgeous beaches are just a 20-minute drive from the village.

While the pace of life in Mijas Pueblo may be a little too laid-back for some, head just 15 minutes towards the coast and you’ll find the thrilling Mijas Aqua Park, and the charming coastal resort of La Cala de Mijas just beyond.

It is great for families

While the traditional village of Mijas Pueblo may be more for the adults, there is plenty to keep the kids entertained along Mijas Costa. You can find plenty of holiday homes, many of which come with superb sea and mountain views and a private swimming pool. On the beach, you’ll find a wide choice of water sports, from jet skiing and water skiing to windsurfing and paragliding.

For petrolheads, Mijas’ former racecourse is just 13km from the town, where you can try go-karting.

The golf is world-class

Golf lovers rejoice! There are currently seven golf courses in the Mijas area, with more under construction. If you base yourself in the coastal town of La Cala de Mijas, you’ll have the courses of La Cala, Santana, El Chaparral and Mijas all within easy reach. They are some of the best courses in Andalusia, with La Cala boasting 18 excellent holes surrounded by lush countryside.

It is easily accessible

It is incredibly easy to reach Mijas from the UK, making it the ideal location for a holiday home. Málaga Airport is the closest airport to Mijas, around 15km away, and there are frequent train and bus services that run between the two.

You can find regular, low-cost flights to Málaga Airport from many of the major UK cities.
