Before booking a viewing trip to find your perfect house or apartment abroad, it’s worth considering what you want from your property – does it need parking, outside space or a swimming pool? Would you need a private outside space, or would you prefer a communal area? How many people will the property need to accommodate?

Once you have determined these factors, you can consider the type of property that would be right for you. There are many different types of to choose from in Spain, so if you’re planning on buying a holiday home or a forever home, there’s sure to be something out there for you.

Apartments

Apartments are a top choice for holiday homes. Easy to manage and to rent out if needs be, you can lock-up and leave an apartment with no issue, so it will be ready and waiting for when you need a Spanish getaway. They are generally easy to manage with no garden or pool to upkeep, although you may need to pay management fees for the communal areas. If you find one near the beach, then you’ll have everything you need to enjoy life in Spain with minimal effort.

Townhouses

Townhouses tend to be terraced properties and can vary in size. They could be a good option if you need something bigger than an apartment but smaller than a villa and are ideal if you want to settle in a town or urbanisation. Gardens that come with townhouses are often quite small, but they often come with a communal area and pool. Easy to maintain and a great holiday home option, a townhouse could be the best option for you.

Villas

Owning a villa in Spain is how everyone pictures their life overseas. Villas are perfect if you have a family or are expecting to entertain lots of visitors, as they typically have a minimum of 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. Most also have their own pool, garden and outside kitchen to host get-togethers and generally have fun. You’ll find that villas on hillsides with sea views can be more expensive, whilst large gardens can either serve as an appeal or a drawback, depending on the maintenance involved.

Masias, Fincas and Cortijos

Spanish farmhouses go by three names, Masias, Fincas and Cortijos. Masias are large stone properties which belonged originally to a local dignitary, usually with a lot of land. Fincas and Cortijos are smaller countryside estates. These may come at high prices, especially if they have the best of both the coast and countryside.
