Naxos

The largest of the Cyclades, Naxos boasts lush green landscapes, sandy beaches with calm shallow waters and lots of activities for the kids. Along with thrilling water sports, there is also a riding school on the island that run horse riding classes along the beach.

Naxos’s location makes it superb for island hopping. Older kids can enjoy the vibrant nightlife of Mykonos in under an hour.

There is plenty for the adults too, including exciting hikes and ancient architecture. Explore the island’s heritage and marvel at the beautiful old churches, monasteries and Venetian castles.

Compared to other islands, property in Naxos is fairly affordable. You can find modern apartments starting at just over €50,000, but if you’re after a sea view, you’d be looking at closer to €120,000. Villas tend to be more expensive, upwards of €400,000.

Hydra

Easily accessible and completely car-free, the cosmopolitan island of Hydra is ideal for children. You can take the ferry from Athens and be in Hydra in just two hours. Once there, the main form of transportation is by donkey! The island is small – barely more than 20 kilometres long – so it is also easy to walk around.

Hydra has maintained an authentic Greek feel, with traditional stone mansions, quaint cobbled streets and magnificent squares.

The island is a popular mooring spot for yachts, with a stunning marina and waterfront lined with shops, bars and restaurants.

Property for sale can be scarce due to the small population; just 2,000 people live on the island permanently. Therefore, homes that are on the market tend to be quite expensive. For a two-bedroom apartment you will need a budget of around €200,000. For a village house you will need anywhere from €300,000 to many millions.

Corfu

Being one of the most popular holiday destinations in Greece, it is hardly surprising that the island caters very well to children. It is the closest island to the UK with direct flights in the summer – no need to worry about getting a ferry from the mainland.

The island would suit every member of the family. With epic waterparks, gorgeous beaches, a rich history and the upmarket pleasures of Corfu Town, you’ll never be bored. Don’t miss the Canal d’Amour, a natural passage between the smooth rocks, where legend has it you’ll find your soulmate.

You can find homes for every budget in Corfu. €100,000 would buy you a reasonably-sized two bedroom apartment and €200,000-€250,000 would present you with a great selection of family villas with private swimming pools.
