Almuñécar

Tucked in the west corner of the Costa Tropical, the town of Almuñécar is gorgeous and authentically Spanish.

First discovered by the Phoenicians over 3,000 years ago, Almuñécar has since been occupied by the Greeks, Romans and Arabs, all of whom have the left their mark.

There are beautiful parks, an impressive Arab castle, a charming Old Town and lovely markets selling locally grown fruit and veg, spices, antiques and arts and crafts. And, of course, several sandy beaches.

Average property prices are €2,183.

La Herradura

Head just five minutes down the coast and you’ll reach the pretty fishing village of La Herradura. The village has a magical aura about it, often attracting those in search of peace and wellness.

It is full of history as it was once a strategic port for the Phoenicians and Romans. Along the marina are a plethora of bars and restaurants, all with a stunning view of the water.

Like Almuñécar, there are several markets throughout the week, including a large outdoor antique market. La Herradura also has its own patron saint (Día de San José – St Joseph) and there are numerous festivals during the month of March to celebrate him.

Average property prices are €2,477.

Salobreña

The picture-perfect whitewashed town of Salobreña is well-deserving of its nickname the ‘jewel of the Costa Tropical’.

The town is perched on top of a huge rock with quaint cobbled streets framed by vibrant pink flowers. With a spectacular Moorish castle built in the 10th century and six sandy beaches, there is plenty to see and do in the town itself. However, the stunning and historical city of Granada and the thrilling ski resorts of the Sierra Nevada mountains are also just 45 minutes away.

Being so close to both the sea and the mountains, there is plenty of opportunity for outdoor activities. These include hiking, rambling, skiing, snowboarding, mountain biking, water sports, golf, tennis, fishing and sailing.

Average property prices are €1,530.
