Vaccines are being rolled out across the UK and Europe meaning there is hope on the horizon for travel and buying your dream home abroad. Spain is a popular destination for international buyers due to its desirable climate, delicious cuisine and beautiful beaches. But where should you buy? We list our top four picks…

Cordoba

For many, when they move abroad they want to experience the true culture and ‘feel’ of their new country. The city of Cordoba – located in Andalusia – offers city life with a relaxed and authentic Spain feel. What’s more, this southern city has a delightfully warm climate and is less than an hour from the beautiful city of Seville by train.

You will experience traditional flamenco dancers as well as some truly incredible architecture. Cordoba is the home of the Mezquita which is known as one of the most impressive Islamic buildings in the world. There are also several Roman ruins to explore.

Some good neighbourhoods to consider are San Basilio, Santa Marina, Juderia and San Andres-San Pablo.

Segovia

The smaller city of Segovia is a historical gem and a Unesco World Heritage site. It is situated just 88km north of Madrid and has a relatively small population of around 52,000. As a result, you can enjoy a quieter lifestyle while still being close to the hustle and bustle of a big city.

Segovia is perfect for fans of grand architecture. There’s a towering Roman aqueduct in the heart of the city and a castle that is thought to be the basis of Walt Disney’s Cinderella Castle. Plus, the city is close to picturesque countryside for hiking and even skiing in the winter!

Valencia

Valencia is the third-largest city in Spain and is one of the most desirable places to live in the country. This city is ideal for buyers of any age, with great food, architecture, nightlife, festivals and beaches.

Valencia is more affordable than some other Spanish cities, with an efficient public transport system, outstanding international schools and a growing population of expats.

Alicante

Alicante city is the capital of the Costa Blanca region. The surrounding areas tend to attract expats with lots of English speakers, but the city itself remains very Spanish. It is an affordable city – both in terms of property and general living costs – and is renowned for its attractive boulevards flanked with palm trees and white sand beaches. You will enjoy year-round sunshine and 125 miles of coastline stretching from Alicante to Valencia. It is a perfect location for sun-seekers!

Alicante is a great base to buy a property, with plenty of transport options. There is a large international airport, with connections to Madrid, Barcelona, the UK and other European cities. There is also a tram connection between Alicante and Benidorm, as well as a well-served train station and ferry services to the gorgeous Balearic Islands and Algeria.
