The idyllic Greek islands are extremely popular with overseas buyers. When it comes to booking a viewing trip, why not make the most of it by exploring the islands by boat. Here are three of our favourite islands to make sure to visit during your voyage.

Thassos

Thassos is a beautiful and traditional island sitting next to the Greek mainland. It is the most northerly of the Greek islands, but the weather is still delightfully warm.

From the water, admire the quintessentially Greek landscape with golden beaches, vineyards, olive groves and charming villages dotted throughout.

Once on land, explore the historical antiquities including an acropolis and Roman amphitheatre. Or easily hop across to the mainland for further adventures. If you fancy buying a home in Thassos, two-bedroom apartments start from around €60,000 and houses from around €150,000.

Mykonos

Probably one of the most well-known Greek islands, Mykonos certainly lives up to its reputation of being absolutely gorgeous. Pretty whitewashed houses contrast with the vibrant blue ocean, making for a picture-perfect view from the water. But the view is just as good on land too – in fact, the sunset from Castle Panigirakis is said to be one of the best in the world!

While the island can get busy in the summer, the atmosphere is second to none with great bars, restaurants and shops. There are also several uninhabited islands nearby with magical coves that are perfect for swimming and snorkling.

Being such a sought-after island, property is expensive. For more affordable options, look more inland. Nonetheless, the rental potential on a home in Mykonos is huge!

Corfu

Finally, we look at Corfu – one of the Ionian islands. Sheltered sandy bays, rocky headlands, turquoise waters and lush green vegetation make the island breathtakingly beautiful.

The winters and mild and the summers are long and hot, making it the perfect spot for sailing at any time of year. The beaches at nearby island Anti-Paxos, which are super easy to reach by boat from Corfu, have been likened to those in the Caribbean due to the white sand and crystal clear waters.

The island is rich in history with influences from several different cultures. You can see this in the stunning neoclassical housing, such as Venetian villas and the Italianate harbour front. Corfu Old Town has even been awarded UNESCO World Heritage site due to its history. Other attractions of interest on the island are the ancient Greek temples, Roman baths, medieval monastries, museums and art galleries.

Property prices vary, but in general, the further from the sea you go, the cheaper the homes get. Do remember, though, that in places Corfu is only three or four miles wide, so you would never be too far from the sea.
