France recently relaxed travel restrictions for UK visitors, so you may wish to take a viewing trip there soon! The government has also announced that most restrictions will be lifted in February. Before you go, however, there are a few things you should consider.

Familiarise yourself with the Covid requirements

Even though the requirements to enter France have been relaxed recently, there are still a few things that you need to prepare before you leave. Before making any firm plans to visit France, do check the many websites including this English-language version from the French government.

At the time of writing, fully vaccinated travellers must show a negative PCR or antigen test taken in the last 24 hours if aged 12 and over.

Find a good estate agent

A good estate agent will make time for you beyond just the properties. They will drive you between various properties and provide you with information on the local area.

Feel free to ask questions! Some good ones to ask are:

  • How long has the property been on the market?
  • How keen are the sellers to sell?
  • What exactly is included in the asking price? (Some properties will include some of the furniture which may be ideal if you are looking for a “lock up and leave”).

Draw up a realistic wish list

Create a profile of your ideal property before you set off, with your budget firmly in mind. Knowing exactly what you want will help you stick to what you can afford. It will also prevent charismatic estate agents from pushing properties that don’t match your requirements.

Don’t let our advice deter you from accepting an agent’s help altogether. After all they work on commission, so a reputable agent will be trained to match the property to the person and offer valuable guidance.

Sort out your finances

You should get your finances sorted and ready to go before your trip – you don’t want to find your dream property and lose it because you don’t have the funds! Before you take a viewing trip, you may want to consider speaking directly to a currency specialist, such as Smart Currency Exchange.
