Paris

As the capital of France, Paris pulls out all the stops when it comes to Christmas. There’s certainly no better place to be for a spot of Christmas shopping. A stroll along the Champs Elysées, which has the most flamboyant display of lights in the whole city, is sure to ignite your Christmas spirit. Visit Place Vendôme, which is decorated with a forest of over 160 pine trees and wander around the variety of Christmas markets.

Nice

Most people think of Nice as the ultimate summer destination, with a beautiful beach and plenty of sunshine. However, it’s a great city to visit in December, too. The Christmas market is one of the most popular in France, attracting over 100,000 visitors a year. Despite this, you’ll find that the shops in Nice are not as busy as other times of the year and you still benefit from 9 hours of sunshine every day, making this a great time to see the city. The lights along the Promeade des Anglais and in the Place de Massena are a sight to behold.

Dinan

Situated in the Cotes d’Armor department of Brittany, the pretty town of Dinan embraces Christmas. The half-timbered and stone houses, cobbled streets and picturesque river running through add to the festive ambience, and there is a market that is held throughout the whole of December. The entire town is decorated in beautiful Christmas lights and best of all, if you’re visiting from the UK, you can take a boat across the Channel and be there in less than an hour.
